Ulster Rugby Star Visits Ulidia

On Friday 31st January, Ulidia Integrated College were very fortunate to have a visit by Ulster and Ireland rugby player Craig Gilroy. Ulidia had originally planned to host the Year 8 rugby festival involving Ulidia, Carrickfergus College and Downshire, but adverse weather conditions unfortunately postponed the event.

Gilroy is a fast improving young player at Ulster Rugby, winning Ulster Young Player of the Year Award 2011/12. Craig’s form resulted in being selected for Ireland, scoring the opening try on his debut against Argentina and has already collected 5 caps for his country at only 22.

With the festival being postponed, Craig then joined the Ulidia Year 8 rugby team and 6th Year Sport Studies class for a Question and Answer session to find out information on what it’s like, and what it takes to play at the highest level in sport. Craig answered questions ranging from his favourite players, to his academic plans if rugby wasn’t his career. All pupils and staff were very appreciative of Craig coming in during his busy schedule and would like to thank him for a very enjoyable and informative afternoon.
