Year 8 re-enact the Battle of Hastings on Senlac Hill!!

Year 8 History classes were set homework to create a sword, shield or any other period battle equipment they could in preparation for a re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings! As you can see – our results were fantastic! We split the class into the Normans, with leader William the Conqueror and the Saxons, with leader Harold Godwin. The Battle was re-enacted on a hill at the bottom of our playground and thankfully the weather held out!

Original 1066 Battle tactics were acted out – with the Saxon shield wall and the Normans clever idea to pretend to flee….. but to turn and slay the Saxons as they left formation to give chase. Poor Harold Godwin died after receiving an arrow through the eye! William the Conqueror was subsequently declared King of England!
