Ulidia Students Bring Home The Victory!

Ulidia Students Bring Home The Victory!

With the Belfast marathon coming up, on Monday 5th May, 14 pupils from Ulidia Integrated College experienced their own athletic competition in the NEBSSA East area heats on Thursday 1st May at the Antrim Forum. All pupils really enjoyed the experience as this was Ulidia’s first time attending.

Pupils competed in 100m, 200m, 800m, Shot Putt and Discus in their respective age groups. Four of our pupils were extremely successful and have qualified for the NEBSSA area finals. They are Bradley Ogilby who was placed 1st in the under 15 boys shot putt. Bradley threw his shot putt over 9 metres with great determination and strength. Leona Malcolm also did incredibly well as she was placed 2nd in the under 15 girls’ shot putt.  Joanna Penney from Year 11 was brilliant in the discus and came third.

The youngest successful student Enya Maguire, placed 2nd in the 200m final. She ran so fast that her leggings kept falling down but she ran bravely and thank goodness her leggings stayed up the whole way round!

Congratulations must go out to all who took part,

Ciaran Wilson 9BL, Niambh Ogle 9BL, Tori Hill 10GL, Enya Maguire 9ST, Robyn Mc Kay 10GL, Mark Moore 9PT, Faith Nicole Thompson 10WT, Jamie Davidson 10NT, Chelsea McClurg 11MTC, Leona Malcom 11DY, Joanna Penney 11MTC, Daniel Write 11DY, Conor Hegarty 11MTC, Bradley Ogilby 11MER.

With the Commonwealth games in Glasgow coming up in July of this year we wish all the finalists lots of success in the NEBSSA finals. Hopefully they will continue to train hard and aspire to reach the Commonwealth or even the Olympics in the future. So good luck to Bradley, Leona, Joanna and Enya!
