Earth Shattering Fun in Geography!

Our Year 10 Geographers have been studying natural hazards this term in class. Within the unit they have been learning about Monsoons in India, Twisters in USA, Tsunamis in Japan, Landslides in England, and even about a twister in Wales! During their lessons the Year 10 students have explored the causes of natural hazards and the effects of them upon property, people and place.

At the end of the unit students explored how to reduce the damage caused by natural hazards by developing buildings to withstand earthquakes. Using blocks, paper and straws their designs were pitted against a level 7 earthquake and survived. The earthquake was created using the help of a seismometer app.
