Personal Writing – ‘My favourite Saturday’

As Ulidia held its very own Christmas fair on Thursday and the Belfast Christmas market is opened on Saturday in the City Hall, now is a good time to post this lovely piece of writing prepared by Patrycja in Year 10. It is called, ‘My favourite Saturday’.

I woke up on a cold, chilly Saturday morning. I was excited for my busy day ahead. Today was the day I finally got to go to the most beautiful Christmas market Belfast has ever had!

I arose from my cosy, warm bed and began to get dressed. The excitement was beginning to take over I was jumping up and down as if I were a bouncy ball. Dressed and wrapped up warm and ready for the bitter cold weather that awaits me outside, I scurry downstairs to see if Laura was ready.

The journey to the Belfast Christmas market was enchanting. The misty fog made it even more special. Laura and I eventually arrived at the joyous market.

There was everything there: fruitcake as you walk in, someone dressed up as Frosty the Snowman, another person dressed up as Father Christmas and everything else a festive market could possibly imagine.

As we stroll around this winter wonderland, we come across a massive nativity set with a real life fire place, a baby Jesus and it was even full of lots and lots of frankincense!

Beside the nativity set was a gigantic real life gingerbread house!

We venture into the giant gingerbread house and discover ginormous gingerbread men and women, and the best part is they are edible! We delicately break a piece of the arm off each and we hear a satisfying “Snap!” as we do.

So far this has been the most jolly Christmas market there has ever been In Belfast!

We eventually dander around the rest of the happy, garland filled market. There are lights everywhere and they even have a gigantic Christmas tree in the centre, decorated with baubles, some popcorn and even more lights!

Laura and I walk over to the hot drink stand and treat ourselves to a lovely, warm cup of homemade hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and cream-just the way we like it.

After hours and hours of walking around our winter wonderland we call the Belfast market, we finally have to leave.

The aroma of spices, hot chocolate and gingerbread men take over me and I get a bit sad that we had to leave.

We stroll out of the festive filled market and head for the train station. The train journey home was incredible – it began to snow!

After months and months of awaiting,  it finally happened! This is why the Saturday before Christmas was my most festive, spectacular, fun-filled Saturday ever.

It was my favourite Saturday of all time.
