Ulidia Eco Team shortlisted for Green Award

Ulidia Eco Team shortlisted for Green Award

The eco team are pleased to have been shortlisted for the 10th anniversary Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards in the Green award category. The awards focus on links between businesses and workplaces, in this instance the relationship that the college have built up with ISL recycling.

Ulidia Integrated College have built a strong relationship with ISL recycling over the past six years. The relationship began at the planning stages of the zero waste project, when Joe from ISL came to the college to meet the eco team. The relationship has been fruitful; with Ulidia partnered with ISL, the college became the first zero waste school in Northern Ireland and remains the only zero waste post primary school in Northern Ireland. Over the years the college has visited ISL recycling plant with our learners, and ISL have visited the college to talk to learners as part of our annual Green Day event. This relationship was developed further in 2014 when ISL partnered Ulidia within the ISL eco-challenge, and together we created an energy app. The energy app is free to download from the school home page, and aims to help KS3 learners with their science and geography studies.

This relationship has been beneficial for both the eco team and ISL recycling, and has allowed members of the eco team to develop skills that will help them in the world of employment. The college is very pleased to have been shortlisted in the ‘Irish News Workplace and Employment’ awards.
