Ulidia Leading The Way In Raising Awareness Of Domestic Abuse

We are delighted to announce that Ulidia is one of the first schools in Northern Ireland to achieve Safe School as awarded by ONUS, the leading charity in Northern Ireland tackling the issue of domestic  abuse.

Over the last number of years we have worked closely with ONUS and Women’s Aid to raise awareness of this issue in school and we have previously achieved a Bronze award for the Workplace Charter on Domestic Violence.

On Wednesday 12th November, we were delighted to attend an awards ceremony in Belfast City Hall, hosted by the Lord Mayor, Nichola Mallon. We were one of only 4 schools to receive the very first Safe Schools status.

Thomas Adams, Head Prefect, received the award from Minister for Justice, David Ford who afterwards congratulated all the efforts made by Ulidia. We also met the Chief Constable, George Hamilton who also praised the efforts made by the school in raising awareness of this very important issue.

We are very proud to receive the award and will continue to work closely with ONUS and Women’s Aid to ensure all pupils are better informed and supported in dealing with this issue.
