Women In STEM Event

Women In STEM Event

Students from Ulidia Integrated College took part in a Carrickfergus Learning Community event at Carrickfergus Grammar school. The event was designed to increase female participation in STEM subjects by increasing knowledge. The Year 10 girls took part in an interactive quiz about STEM, and then built their own rocket!

During the event the girls learnt that only 1/3 of environmental engineers are women, and that a STEM based job can earn you £250,000 more over a lifetime.

They also learnt about women who have made a big splash in the world of STEM such as Maria Telkes who worked on solar energy technologies and designed the first solar panel powered house in 1947.

Overall the event was great fun and very informative.
