Internet Safety Workshop

Internet Safety Workshop

On Tuesday 20th January 2015, Year 11 took part in the ‘Connected’ workshop run by The Pregnancy Resource Centre in Carrickfergus. ‘Connected’ has been developed in partnership with the local schools and addresses the many risks involving technology and the internet.

The main aim of the workshop is to show the reality of our lives, connected with computers, smart phones and the internet. It also covers important problems such as pornography, sexting and social media. Many young people do not actually realise where the law stands on these issues so I found the workshop very helpful and informative for that reason.

The workshop took place over two periods and the year group was given a booklet that had to be filled in over the session. We were shown presentations with information on the different issues and this enabled us to fill in our booklets. Also, for part of the time, the boys and girls were separated into different rooms so all the boys got to talk to a man and the girls to a woman, to talk more in depth and in confidence. This was probably what I liked most about the workshop.

I feel the workshop had a positive impact on the students and was a huge success!
