Polish Sport ‘Ringo’ a Big Success

Polish Sport ‘Ringo’ a Big Success

This year, to celebrate Integrated Education Week, our Year 13 pupils decided to do something in keeping with the theme of ‘Horizons’ and sport was an obvious choice. What better unifier of people throughout the world is there than sport? Take for example the Olympic Games and the football World Cup when people of all nationalities come together to compete against one another in a spirit of mutual respect. Sport keeps us healthy; it helps us develop new skills and teaches us a lot about ourselves and others as we learn to play together.

Our pupils started by looking into popular sports in other countries; as several of our school community are Polish it was a natural step to choose a sport from Poland. Ringo was selected for several reasons: firstly it is a sport suitable for boys and girls of all ages. Secondly we have all the necessary facilities i.e. space, nets etc. except for the actual Ringo Rings which had to be purchased directly from Poland.

A team of four senior pupils set out to train themselves in the sport before introducing it to some Year 10 pupils during their games lesson.

The session went very well; the pupils enjoyed the game and played it with a lot of enthusiasm. Admittedly it did take a bit of practice before they got into full flow and the points started to rack up.

Initial feedback has been extremely positive with many other pupils asking to learn Ringo too. Perhaps someday we may even be able to enter a team to compete in Poland!
