On Thursday morning, 6th form IT students from Ulidia were given the opportunity to attend a breakfast meeting with IT professionals to discuss their careers paths with them. The event was organised by the CABLE group (Carrickfergus Area Business Links with Education) and took place in Carrickfergus Enterprise Agency.

Students met with Mark Kelso from Glaze Digital, Peter Johnston from Lystable, Kyle Gawley from Get Invited and Jill Robb from Origin Digital.

Meeting with very successful and ambitious professionals was inspiring to say the least and our students learned valuable lessons: be focused, get up early and work hard to achieve what you want.

We want to thank Stephen Kinkaid from Big Wet Fish and Lorna Shields from Carrickfergus Enterprise Agency for organising this event, and the facilitators for meeting with our students.

“Talking to the people who have had professional careers in IT has been an enlightening experience as to what paths I can walk whenever I leave Sixth Form. I learned what attributes are needed in order to thrive in the IT industry and was given helpful pointers as to how I would secure myself a steady career in ICT. I am now determined to work towards that goal!” Olivia, Year 13.

“I felt that the ICT meetup was very beneficial, as it taught me a lot about how to get ahead in the industry. Meeting the different CEOs and founders of some successful companies was fun, and I was able to ask questions about what subjects to study, the salaries I can expect and other useful information.” James, Year 13.

“It was a very enlightening experience, where we were able to candidly ask questions about the industry, giving us an insight into the work, the lifestyle and salary that comes with the success that they have accomplished.” Joe, Year 14.
