This week we are sharing a Personal Writing piece by Zara, who is in Year 9. The task was to write about someone we consider a hero.

Enjoy!

MY HERO

by Zara

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Big, small, fat, skinny. Some wear capes, and some drive Batmobiles. Some heroes, may not seem heroic at all.

My hero however, is probably one of the most heroic people I’ve ever come across. He battles demons, not in real life, but in his head. His name is Tyler Joseph.

Tyler Joseph is a musician, and he is part of a two man band with Josh Dun called Twenty One Piløts! I can’t quite put my finger on a specific genre, but they’re something else.

Each album tells a story, each song being a new chapter. He takes time writing music, making sure each word fits together perfectly. Kind of like a puzzle. His lyrics represent something meaningful. Something real. He explains his mindset in the most profound way, using Blurryface. Blurryface is an interpretation of Tyler’s demons. I feel as if Blurryface is something to be respected.

One of the many reasons I love Tyler Joseph, is that no matter how old you are, or how wild you think your mind is, he has written a song just for you. A song that relates to you in a way that no one else can, mine being Truce. He shows such emotion in his music and I’ve never seen anyone perform quite like Tyler Joseph.

I cannot justify how much his music has helped me and millions of others. If I’m sad, I put Twenty One Piløts on. If I’m happy, whoop, another Twenty One Piløts cd in the CD player. Also, the amount of times he’s posted a picture of his wife, Jenna, explaining how much he loves her, is enough to melt your heart. Literally. They’re so cute it hurts.

One of my favourite albums would probably be Vessel. I love that album. Again, the amount of emotion and hard work that went into that album, resulted in it being the favourite of the fan base. I know this because it’s all anyone talks about. I think it’s because they put some tracks from Regional At Best on it, and you literally cannot find that album in hard copy anywhere.

Anyway…

He’s really funny too. I love all of his vines and random videos.

I love the way he always reminds us to “stay alive” and at the end of “Guns for hands” at a live show, he always promises that life gets better and that staying alive is worth it. “Stay alive” is also a lyric in Truce, that being my favourite (it you remember).

Tyler Joseph, to me, is like a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold day, or that feeling you get when you wake up in the middle of the night and you realise that you have more time to sleep.

His smile and laugh are enough to light up a whole room.

It just amazes me how he can perform in front of millions of fans, meet thousands of fans and still live his normal life, while battling with himself. Yet he never lets Blurryface show. He always tries to stay positive for the fans, for Jenna and for Josh. Now that, my friends, is what I call heroic!
