Introduction and ethos:

In Ulidia, the Art and Design department teach pupils to think for themselves, to be creative, imaginative and to be able to present work carefully.  Pupils learn how to communicate and express their ideas and feelings through a variety of learning experiences.

 

Key Stage 3

In KS3 all pupils follow the Northern Ireland Curriculum with 5 units that allow them to experience a wide range of materials and techniques which provide a variety of different learning experiences.  Pupils will experience drawing, painting, collage, printing, animation, photography, relief, ICT and 3D building as well as learning about Artists, Designers and Cultures.

 

Key Stage 4

CCEA exam board Art and Design – This 2 year course enables pupils to work independently and have the opportunity to work with fine art, fashion, ICT graphics, printmaking, textiles, jewellery, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media and animation.  All pupils are required to research and use the work of various artists, art movements and cultures.  60% Coursework, 40% exam.

 

CCEA exam board Moving Image Arts – This 2 year course enables pupils to develop an understanding of film language in both theory and practice.  Investigate and experiment with film making techniques.  Produce moving image artworks.  60% Coursework, 40% exam.

 

Key Stage 5

 

CCEA exam board Art and Design – This 2 year course follows on from GCSE and enables pupils to work on their own portfolio based project (60%) using a variety of media and techniques.  Exam( 40%) is in the form of an ESA.

 

CCEA exam board Moving Image Arts – This 2 year course follows on from GCSE with further development in the acquisition of skills and theory.  Pupils must produce their own piece of Moving Image art/film.  70% Coursework, 30% Online exam.

 

AQA exam board Photography – This 2 year course enables pupils to develop an understanding of Photography theory and practice.  Pupils work on a portfolio coursework (60%) unit in which they produce their own work based on the theory and practice of Photographers and Artists. Exam (40%) is in the form of an ESA.
