24 May Young Environmentalist of the Year
The Eco Team from Ulidia Integrated College were invited to the ECO UNESCO young environmentalist of the year competition in Dublin on Wednesday 22nd May. The group were selected to represent Ulster in the senior waste category for their ‘zero waste’ project.
The group were represented by David McGuinness and Hannah McGuicken at the event as the rest of the team were completing examinations. The pair spoke well to the judges, and took part in workshop activities as well as sampling fair trade sweets and ice cream!
The event was attended by Michael D Higgins, the President of Ireland who spoke about sustainability of resources and stated that ‘we live in our planet together and should all share its vulnerabilities’. The group were interviewed for RTE News and also for Blue mountain radio in Australia as a follow up interview to when they visited us last week at school.
A very enjoyable day was had to celebrate the achievements of the team this year – Well Done!
