24 Jun Year 11 GCSE Geography Class Visit Titanic Quarter
The Year 11 GCSE Geography class recently completed some urban Fieldwork in Belfast. The fieldwork course was run by the Field Studies Centre in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter. Starting the morning in the classroom they spent 45 minutes looking at the development of Belfast in the 1800’s into a leading industrial city through to its decline in the 1970’s and 80’s.
They then looked at a number of hypotheses regarding the regeneration of the shipyard area into the ‘Titanic Quarter’. Elements such as land use, sustainability, environmental quality and the importance of the Titanic Centre were all looked at. The students then got an opportunity to head out and complete some data collection before heading back into the classroom to analyse and evaluate their results
All the students stated that they had a great day and were proud of how the city of Belfast had regenerated this brownfield site into the modern, attractive area they see today.
