13 Jun Year 8 Boys Gaelic Blitz
Fifteen year 8 pupils from Ulidia took part in their first ever Gaelic tournament for the school. The event took place at the All Saints Gaelic club in Ballymena. The tournament was 10 a-side (opposed to the usual 15) and the pitches were reduced in size encourage more contact with the ball. The boys played five matches over the course of the day and they did well to draw two of them in their first outing. From the outset getting to grips with the new rules of Gaelic appeared quite challenging. The skill of having to scoop the ball off the ground with your foot instead of just lifting it was especially tricky. However, as the day progressed more of the boys started to get the hang of it.
Ciaran Wilson scored some excellent goals and other scorers included Ross Black and Callum Blunt.
