06 Jun Year 8 Learn About Volcanoes
Year 8 are studying Tectonic activity in Japan this term.
Year 8 have been learning about how different shaped volcanoes are formed by experimenting with jelly! The thick lava is represented by cream, which takes a long time to move and makes high steep volcanoes such as Mt Fiji in Japan. Thin viscous lava is represented by strawberry sauce which travels fast and makes wide short gentle sloped volcanoes such as Mt Asma in Japan. Then we added Haribo to represent animals and people which live on the fertile soils produced by the nutrient rich ash which is deposited by the volcanoes, and to represent tourists who visit volcanoes.
The students agreed that the best part of volcanoes is when you get to eat them!
