Ulidia Integrated College Celebrates Success At Annual Speech And Prize Day 2013

Thursday 19 December 2013 marked the official date for Ulidia Integrated College’s Annual Speech and Prize Day.  Staff and pupils joined the Prize Winners in the Hall to share in the success and achievements of pupils for the year 2012/2013.

This year we celebrated prize day with a difference as guests; Mrs Trea Buick, a Founding Teacher of the College; Miss Lynze Hall, a founding pupil and now a teacher at the College and Miss Carly Smyth also a founding pupil and now Art Technician, were formally invited to join the Board of Governors in the official presentations.  Mrs Buick and Miss Hall spoke passionately about the history of the college and how its beginning had an impact on their lives then and now.  They spoke of the difficulties that surrounded the birth of the college with only 63 pupils in second hand mobiles to the growth and success of the college now in a purpose built establishment with over 570 pupils. They also concentrated on how the college has developed academically becoming the number one school in Northern Ireland last year, based on A level results.

Ulidia Integrated College offers a wide range of subjects to meet the needs of its pupils.  Awards and Trophies were presented for GCSEs, A Levels and Attendance as well as music, sport and Duke of Edinburgh.  Pupils were also recognised for their outstanding contributions to the ethos of the school and their commitment to school life.

A special mention should go to the following pupils who have excelled academically through extra-curricular activities:

Robyn Haslett, who was awarded the Simpson Cup for personal achievement.  Robyn was identified by CCEA as the pupil scoring maximum marks in the CCEA 2013 Art and Design examination.  CCEA wished to recognise this achievement by presenting her with a certificate to celebrate her success.

Anna Maguire, who was awarded the G Force Cup for sport.  Anna has shown total commitment to sport both in and out of school.  She currently is part of the U15 Volleyball and netball NEBSSA winning teams, Ireland Netball Academy, U16 Irish Basketball team, school hockey team and has been awarded funding from the Mary Peters Trust.

The ECO team were also highly commended for their contributions to the Zero Waste Campaign which allowed Ulidia Integrated College to maintain its ‘Green Flag’ status as an Eco School.  These pupils also represented Ulster in the ECO-UNESCO all Ireland Finals of the Young Environmentalist of the Year competition.

Finally, the Principal and staff of Ulidia Integrated College would like to thank our Head Prefect of 2012-2013, Naomi Smyth for her dedication and commitment to school life.
