Ulster Rugby Star Visits Ulidia

Ulster Rugby Star Visits Ulidia

On Friday 31st January, Ulidia Integrated College were very fortunate to have a visit by Ulster and Ireland rugby player Craig Gilroy. Ulidia had originally planned to host the Year 8 rugby festival involving Ulidia, Carrickfergus College and Downshire, but adverse weather conditions unfortunately postponed the event.

Gilroy is a fast improving young player at Ulster Rugby, winning Ulster Young Player of the Year Award 2011/12. Craigโ€™s form resulted in being selected for Ireland, scoring the opening try on his debut against Argentina and has already collected 5 caps for his country at only 22.

With the festival being postponed, Craig then joined the Ulidia Year 8 rugby team and 6th Year Sport Studies class for a Question and Answer session to find out information on what itโ€™s like, and what it takes to play at the highest level in sport. Craig answered questions ranging from his favourite players, to his academic plans if rugby wasnโ€™t his career. All pupils and staff were very appreciative of Craig coming in during his busy schedule and would like to thank him for a very enjoyable and informative afternoon.
