29 Jan Eco Schools Travel Challenge
Over the last two weeks Year 9 took part in the Translink Eco-Schools Travel Challenge. Participating in the Travel Challenge is a means for schools to cover the general topic of ‘Transport’ which will then contribute to their overall Eco-Schools Award assessment. It aims to encourage students to travel to school using sustainable methods. Travelling by bus/train or walking reduces the amount of pollution and carbon in the atmosphere; it’s also healthy and more sociable.
Pupils recorded how they travelled to and from school each day for the two week period, these were then gathered by form tutors and collated into a spread sheet.
As a year group Year 9 travelled 5044 sustainable kilometres during the two weeks. To walk around the edge of Northern Ireland is 625km; Year 9 could do this over 8 times!
