National Women in Engineering Day

National Women in Engineering Day

On Tuesday 23rd of June a group of Year 8 and Year 9 girls were invited to spend the day at Lagan Construction Group in Belfast.

We had the opportunity to build the ICE bridge (ICE: Institute of Civil Engineers) as well as listen to two very experienced engineers describe their work with current projects.

One engineer, James Adams spoke to us about the new build in Belfast for the University of Ulster while Brandi Davey explained her project, implementing new runways at Cambridge Airport.

The girls especially enjoyed the teamwork necessary to successfully build the bridge. We were also delighted to hear that using Minecraft is a good start to one of the most influential new computer systems (BIM) in the civil engineering world!

It was a great day in warm sunshine and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
