01 Jun Ulidia Goes Solar!
Ulidia Integrated College has installed 28 solar panels, delivering a maximum of 7kW (7000 watts) of electrical energy into the school electrical system. They were switched on at 5pm on Tuesday 31st March.
The display unit in the front hall of the school at reception has three digital readings; the first reading gives the strength of the sun at any moment. This may vary from second to second depending on the sun shine and the clouds that would pass between the sun and the panels, interrupting the solar energy (or Irradiance). The second reading is the energy delivered to the school’s electrical system, at no cost, and thus reducing our CO2 emissions, as shown in the reading below it.
The 5kW wind turbine’s contribution, sadly, is not included in this display but combined the output is 12 kW and the wind turbines readings could be estimated proportionately allowing a little less for the turbine.
The installation of these solar panels increases our renewable energy production and is further evidence of Ulidia Integrated College’s commitment to environmental education.
