09 Dec Royal Seal of Approval for Ulidia Students
On Friday 27th November, six pupils from Ulidia Integrated College attended a Food to Fork event at Forge Integrated Primary School. During the event they discussed what they have been growing in school and had on show a display of seasonal plants that they were growing, as well as photographs of pupils working on the outdoor beds. They also discussed various activities that the school’s ECO club has been taking part in.
The event was hosted by Keep Northern Ireland beautiful and Eco-schools Northern Ireland.
His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester attended the event and took time to speak to pupils from Ulidia Integrated College. Pupils from Ulidia Integrated College discussed with his Royal Highness the various vegetables they have been growing in school within horticulture classes and Eco club, as well as seasonal planting that has been taking place. The pupils also spoke to His Royal Highness about the impact the school’s ECO-club has been making with regard to the school’s zero waste policy and explained that Ulidia Integrated College is the only post primary zero waste school in Northern Ireland and ambassador school for Eco schools Northern Ireland.
His Royal Highness was interested to speak to our learners about their horticulture studies at Ulidia Integrated College and a representative of the Integrated Education Fund was also impressed that horticulture was included within our curriculum at Ulidia Integrated College.
Eco team members were excited to meet a member of the Royal family and commented on how much fun they had.
Well done to Mrs Doig and Mrs Patterson for arranging the visit.
