Women’s Aid

Women’s Aid

On Friday 13th November 2015, the Year 14 A-Level English class had the pleasure of welcoming Women’s Aid representative, Elaine, to Ulidia Integrated College.

The English Literature students who are currently studying Roddy Doyle’s; ‘Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha’, welcomed Elaine to discuss the effects and provide a realistic insight and understanding around the topic of Domestic Abuse. The Student’s took part in group activities which allowed them to think about the various aspects in which Domestic Abuse can be recognised, then providing feedback to the class in which the Students were able to relate their understandings back to the novel.

I found the event to be incredibly insightful and beneficial in terms of determining what exactly Domestic Abuse is, and what it can mean to a community. Elaine really helped us gain a clear understanding of the topic, and the group activities allowed us to share our thoughts and views with one another and how we can relate this to Roddy Doyle’s novel.

I would like to thank Elaine for visiting our English Class and taking the time to share with us her knowledge and experience on the subject.
