Please note that Middletown Centre for Autism will deliver a further three parent training sessions in the College Library.  The details of these sessions are as follows:

Wednesday 10 February 2016:               Autism, Relationships and Sexuality Education

This session will review the impact of emotional and physical changes on the young person with autism, as well as social pressures that typically occur during adolescence.  Parents will be shown how to implement interventions and practical strategies that will support and help young people with autism cope with some typical issues.

Wednesday 2 March 2016:                    Autism: The promotion of independent skills at home and in school (to include                                                                            study skills)

During this session, parents will gain insight as to why fostering independent living skills is crucial in order to help their teenager achieve their full potential.  Parents will be shown how to identify priority skills and how to carry out a task analysis of the skills their teenager needs to function independently both in school and at home.

Wednesday 9 March 2016:                    Autism: Transitions within the Post Primary School and to Further/Higher                                                                                    Education and the World of Work.

Transition refers to the time when we move from one stage of life to another.  Successful preparation and transition can have a positive impact on future development and achievement.  Within this session, the importance and design of a planned transition programme and the role of the parent will be examined along with ideas and suggestions as to how best prepare not only the young person with autism but the parent and educational setting.

Registration for each session takes place from 6.30pm until 7.00pm and the sessions last two hours, from 7.00pm until 9.00pm.  Light refreshments will be provided during registration.
