06 Oct Ulidia Loves Languages!
Staff and students at Ulidia were inspired by the annual European Day of Languages. This year we celebrated on Monday 26th September with various language related activities going on throughout the school. Several teachers were showing off their language skills in form time. Posters were displayed in several departments, embracing the ‘Talk to me’ theme. The Geography department celebrated the day with a recycling lesson with key terms in French.
In the Maths classrooms the students were working with different currencies and exchange rates which will be useful for everyone at holiday time.
In the Languages department we completed a language themed quiz where year 11 compared linguistic features of different European languages and were inspired by a clip of ‘the Irish Polyglot’. Year 9 created a word cloud with the word HELLO translated into 16 different languages. Wrist bands , stickers and snap bracelets were awarded as prizes for effort and participation in the activities on the day. We are already looking forward to expanding the celebration for European Day of Languages 2017!
