23 Mar Outdoor Education
Earlier this month, pupils from Ulidia Integrated College were invited to attend a teacher training conference about outdoor education, to share the excellent practice at Ulidia.
During the conference our pupils hosted a stand, where they told new and experienced teachers from all over Northern Ireland about their horticulture lessons and about the Eco Schools programme here at Ulidia. Pupils shared stories about their adventures, and explained what they had learnt through their eco activities.
While at the conference pupils were given the opportunity to attend a very informative seminar by Dr William Bird who linked inactivity outside with increasing mental health issues. Then they attended a seminar about birds in Northern Ireland and how to protect their natural habitats which was hosted by the RSPB. The horticulture pupils then had the opportunity to attend a seminar by Jill Dougan where they learnt about growing potatoes in bags which will help them in their studies back in school.
Well done to the eco team and horticulture class for representing Ulidia Integrated College so well at this event.
