10 May NEBSSA Athletics
14 Ulidia pupils from year 8–10 travelled to the Antrim Forum on Thursday 27th April 2017 for the annual regional athletics competition. The weather was kind to us as it stayed dry although very cold. What an amazing day for Ulidia as we had 6 pupils returning for the finals on Thursday 4th May.
In year 8 Erin had a great start coming 3rd in her heat in the 100m and a very respectable 2nd in her 200m heat. Erin progressed through to the final of the 200m and was placed 6th overall. Well done Erin. Tamzin competed in the 800m but was unable to finish. Michael competed in both the 100m and 200m and was superb in both heats and final winning everything and now goes forward to the finals next Thursday to compete against the other regional finalists. Well done Michael! (Usain Bolt, beware!!)
Wiktor also took part in the 100m coming 3rd in his heat and making it through to the final where he also came 3rd putting him 1st reserve for the finals. Well done Wiktor. Wallace was the 200m man and he also came 1st in his heat and was only pipped at the line in the final into 3rd place putting him into 1st reserve for the final too. With all this splendid array of talent from the year 8 boys, the sprinting the relay promised to be very exciting and they certainly did not let us down. All 4 boys ran their hearts out and were placed 2nd and into the final. Congratulations to Ruari, Wallace, Wiktor and Michael.
Both Charlie and Thomas competed in the U13 boys long jump and high jump. Charlie jumped = to first place in the high jump but on count back came 2nd place in the final. In the long Jump it was Thomas’ turn to step up and fourth and 2nd reserve for the final. Congratulations and well done to all of year 8.
In year 9 both Sophie and Anesa took part in the 100m and 200m. They both said the pace was really fast. They did not make the finals but did themselves and the school proud in both events. Well done Sophie and Anesa.
Year 10 was an all-girl turn out for Ulidia. Anna and Rebecca both competed in the 100m heats and both girls made it through to the final where they performed really well but missed out on the final. Well done girls. Erin performed brilliantly in both her events taking first place in the U15 girls long jump and first place in the 200m, so Erin joins the list of Ulidia stars going to the final next week.
The behaviour and attitude of all our students was exemplary throughout the day.
Following on to the NEBSSA finals the success continued. Congratulations to Michael in year 8 as he became the NEBSSA U12 100m champion and he got silver in the 200m. The year 8 boys relay team also achieved success getting 2nd place and a silver medal each. Well done Ruari, Wallace, Wiktor and Michael. In year 10 Erin also got a gold in the long jump with an incredible jump of 4.59m.
Ulidia would like to congratulate all who attended the NEBSSA finals and look forward to the Districts on Tuesday 9th May 2017 where their talent will be on display again.
