Ulidia Awarded Third Green Flag!

Ulidia Awarded Third Green Flag!

On Wednesday 26th November Ulidia Integrated College was visited by two Eco Schools inspectors to assess our Eco Schools Programme. The visitors spoke to our Vice Principal Mrs Bonar about Eco Schools and how it was part of our whole school curriculum. The eco team then took the visitors on a tour of the school.

During the tour the eco team showed them our birdboxes and video feed. They also heard about the recycled materials used within the Technology department. Then onto the canteen were the inspectors learned about our healthy living and healthy food schemes.

The Geography department had a notice board on display that was centred around the school’s annual greenday and exhibited relevant student work. After this the two inspectors were shown the wonderful natural habitats we have at the back of the school.

In the Art department Mrs Chada spoke about how the students take used bottles and transform them into bottle fish. Once the eco team got to the Maths department Miss Hall showed them maths graphs drawn with data collected from the schools wind turbine. The inspectors were keen to find out how much students knew about their school eco code.

In the Science department Mr Glass showed our visitors A Level work which was studying the schools energy consumption and using the data to find patterns. The inspectors were then shown the horticulture beds including the disabled access planting bed. In Home Economics they heard about fair trade and in History they saw how we reuse materials in our lessons.

The inspectors were very impressed with the enthusiasm of our students and awarded the eco team their third green flag award. The eco team would like to thank Ulidia staff and students for their on-going support of the Eco Schools Programme.
