Ulidia ICT Students come to the aid of local resident.

Ulidia A-Level ICT students, Ryan Hardy and Adam Heggarty, were called upon to help local resident, Mr Marks, with an IT problem during the week.

Mr Marks of Newtownabbey is in a wheelchair due to a broken back and likes to spend his time listening to the radio.

He had recently purchased a modern DAB digital wifi radio to expand his range of stations to include worldwide broadcasts. Unfortunately when it came to the setup and configuration of the radio it was proving complicated as Mr Marks also likes to listen to the radio in his garage where his wifi signal is too weak to connect to his router. He sought advice and purchased some wifi range extenders but was unsure of how to connect everything together.

He had hoped his broadband provider could help but unfortunately they were not able to do so. Mr Marks then got in touch with Mr Noel Williams, the Alliance councillor for his area, who in turn called Ulidia’s headmaster Mr Martin to see if he might be able to offer assistance.

Mr Martin was only too happy to help and asked his ICT technician, Mr McVeigh to put together a team to help Mr Marks. Ryan and Adam happily volunteered and after a convenient time was organised, the “three amigos” called out to Mr Marks’ house.  Ryan and Adam are currently studying Technical Support as part of their ICT course, making it prudent to ask them for assistance.

After correctly diagnosing the problem, the pupils proceeded to get everything set up as per Mr Marks requirements.

Ryan and Adam commented that “Mr and Mrs Marks are a lovely couple and it was a pleasure to be able to help them get the best from the DAB radios they had bought.”
