The Geography Department Share The Love!

Throughout the week Geography students have been exploring what aspects of their lives will be effected by climate change. Students created green hearts to show their love for the things they will miss, including coffee and chocolate.

Did you know that in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana, where more than half the world’s cocoa is grown, the land suitable for production could halve due to temperature rise? This means that chocolate will rise in price as it will become a luxury item?

Students also explored that the changing weather patterns across regions such as South America are threatening coffee harvests. Crops are falling prey to disease, and farmers are facing failed harvests year after year. This means that coffee production will decrease or may even stop in the future.

Students explored how they can reduce climate change to protect their favourite things. They then shared these ideas on green hearts.
