Rugby Success for Ulidia Students!

Rugby Success for Ulidia Students!

On Saturday 2nd of May, eight Ulidia students from Years 9 and 10 travelled to The Kingspan Stadium (formerly known as Ravenhill) to represent Carrickfergus Rugby Club in the prestigious Ulster Carpets Youth Title at Under 14 Level. The boys and the rest of their team mates played exceptionally well throughout the match with Carrickfergus outscoring Armagh by five tries to one, en route to a 31-5 success in the U14 final.

The whole team deserves a huge amount of credit, given the trauma they experienced 5 weeks ago when the team bus was involved in a crash as they travelled home following their game against Donegal Town. The bus overturned on the Laghey to Pettigo Road just before 3pm but thankfully, although some of the players were taken to Enniskillen hospital, they all got home and injuries were mostly limited to bumps and bruises. The people from Pettigo (where the accident happened) have said that everyone connected with them should be proud of them as their manners and behaviour were exemplary in the aftermath of the crash.

Ulster Rugby have commented on how well the boys have coped and put their energy and focus in to playing their Cup matches, winning both the quarter and semi-finals in the space of 3 days and beating Armagh in the final at Ravenhill. Everyone of them was outstanding, in their attitude and athletic ability.
