Introduction and Ethos of Department

The PE department at Ulidia offers a diverse range of activities to suit all abilities. Although we do many sports over the course of the year our primary sports for boys are football and rugby and for girls it is hockey although both volleyball and basketball have grown in popularity over the past few years.

Academically in the department we run BTEC sports studies courses for 11 – 14 pupils in addition to GCSE PE alongside our Level 2 BTEC course.

Year 11 and 12
• BTEC Level 1/2 First Award course is equivalent to 1 GCSE or
• GCSE Physical Education

Year 13 and 14
• BTEC Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in Sports development, coaching and fitness – Single award (equivalent to 1 A Level) or
• BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sports development, coaching and fitness – Double award (equivalent to 2 A Levels)

Our ethos is firmly built around inclusiveness and enhancing the long term health of our pupils. It is our aim to inspire an interest in some sport or activity that will encourage our pupils to maintain exercising whenever they leave school. Our PE lessons are very much focused around developing basic skills in a range of activities. We also try to incorporate as many cooperative games as possible to allow all children the opportunity to feel involved and enjoy the benefits of exercise.
